In this paper, we propose a diver detection method based on the saliency of sonar images. On the basis of studying the characteristics of diver sonar images, we employ saliency detection techniques based on frequency analysis to segment the acoustic highlight region from its surroundings, which can adapt to diverse postures and motion directions of the diver target in sonar images. We find that decomposition and median filtering on the original sonar image before conducting saliency detection can significantly improve the effect of the saliency map. Extracting the acoustic shadow region in generated roi can reduce the interference of background and improve the localization accuracy. The experimental results show that the method can effectively detect the a gift for a diver diver mug gifts best gift for a friend diver target with diverse postures and motion directions in sonar images and can meet real-time application requirement.
Passive deep sea diver gifts diver coffee mug gift for a diver detection relies on the detection of sounds emitted by underwater breathing apparatus. It is limited by the ambient noise. Passive detection and localization of scuba divers in a port environment up to 400 m has been reported. The applicability of these methods to warm waters has not been demonstrated yet. Indeed, warm waters are noisy waters whose background noise is usually dominated by the noise produced by the marine life, in particular by snapping shrimps that generate very loud transients. In this study, we report the first investigation of the detectability of scuba gifts for a diver mug diver a gift for a diver s in warm waters using passive acoustics. The study was performed using data collected using the romanis system. Romanis is a 2d array of 1. 3 m meter diameter equipped with 508 sensors and developed at the national university of singapore for ambient noise imaging. The data analysed were collected in april 2010 while scuba divers were deploying a target for imaging at 70 m from the array. The data analysed presents significant level of snapping shrimp noise (more than 200 snaps per second). It was analysed using beamforming. The large number of sensors on the array allows for processing of the data using a subset of sensors, thereby enabling to study the influence of the number of sensors. The beamformed data enabled detection of the scuba diver’s inhalations and to determine their azimuth and elevation. The study indicates that passive diver detection is applicable in warm waters dominated by snapping shrimp noise.

Diver detection sonar (dds) systems are sonar and acoustic location systems employed underwater for the detection of divers and submerged swimmer delivery vehicles (sdvs). The purpose of this type of sonar system is to provide detection, tracking and classification information on underwater threats that could endanger property and lives. Further, this information is useful only to the extent that it is made available to authorities in time to make possible the desired response to the threat, be it deterrent or defensive action. Subsurface threats are a difficult problem, because reliable detection is available to date chiefly by use of high-resolution active sonar or trained dolphins or sea lions. The threat of an underwater terrorist attack is a concern to the maritime industry and port law enforcement agencies. Ports face a range of threats from swimmers, boat-delivered ordnance such as limpet mines and other forms of improvised underwater explosive devices. Dds systems have been developed to provide underwater security for ports, coastal facilities, offshore installations, pipelines and ships. Due to the variety of life and objects that exist under the water, it is desirable that a dds system be capable of distinguishing between large sea mammals, shoals of fish; a ship's wake; a diver with an open circuit scuba set and a stealth diver with a rebreather.
Diver detection sonar systems are designed to automatically detect and track underwater and surface threats.
The aquashieldâ„¢ dds – diver detection sonar supports long range of detection for all types of underwater threats including divers using rebreathing apparatus, scuba divers and unmanned underwater vehicles (uuvs). The aquashieldâ„¢ architecture is modular to allow maximum flexibility in its deployment and installation. The system offers three sector coverage configurations: 120â°, 240â° and 360â°. All configurations cover the entire relevant water column.
A diver is an underwater swimmer who carries a self contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba) system and can stay underwater for a long time. Because of the presence of water,  people ashore find it difficult to find, to search for, and to communicate with divers. In addition, when a diver is in danger, the probability of misfortune is high, even with the help of rescuers. There are active and passive sonar system for underwater detection. In shallow water, the active sonar system faces the challenge of reverberation, and the performance requirements of small targets are high. Compared with the active mode, passive sonar has small energy consumption, is cheaper and more hidden, and is being pursued as an alternative [ 1 ].
Aquashieldâ„¢ is a high-performance diver detection sonar (dds) system, which is used for long-lasting underwater protection in naval bases, docks, oil and gas depots, offshore platforms, underwater pipelines and cables, nuclear energy facilities, and canals. The aquashieldâ„¢ dds provides long-range recognition for many marine threats, including divers using rebreathing devices, scuba divers, and unmanned underwater vehicles (uuvs).
The base system, sentinel, is configured to meet the needs of commercial and infrastructure facility protection projects. It can be used as a standalone security sensor or integrated with third party command and control (c2) security systems. Support for networked sonar is also offered, meaning that entire waterfronts can be protected using a single operator station.

"the importance of protecting our ports, waterways, ships and bridges from underwater security threats has never been greater, and these advances in technology will address this need — providing powerful, user-friendly software that will continue to be upgraded for operation on our world-leading system technology," said phil andrew, manager of underwater security for kongsberg mesotech, based in port coquitlam, british columbia.
As the size and complexity of large yachts has evolved, so has the level of sophistication of their security systems. Simply having door locks and a few cameras is no longer suitable for today’s largest super-yachts. Common security equipment includes: thermal and night vision cameras, motion sensors, deck pressure sensors, rfid based access controls, and high resolution radars. Farsounder’s ship protection system adds underwater surveillance to the suite of sensors available to a yacht’s security team. Such a large variety of data sources can easily overwhelm crew. In such cases, a well thought-out, integrated security solution is required.

April 29, 2012: south korea is buying an unspecified number of cerberus diver detection systems to protect its major harbors from attack by terrorists or north korean commandos. The cerberus diver detection system is a (large) refrigerator sized device that is lowered to the ocean floor in the middle of the area you want to guard. Cerberus uses sonar to detect anything large enough to be a threat, up to 1,000 meters (or more) out. Cerberus works well in shallow water and can be tweaked by the operator, once emplaced, to be even more accurate.
Ultrasound detection artificial intelligence and electronic neural networks and developments in ultrasound have made possible specialized diver-detector sonars. Experience has showed that passive sonar (i. E. Merely listening for underwater sounds) cannot detect everything; in particular it cannot easily detect rebreather divers and unequipped surface swimmers; and it can detect direction, but not distance unless readings from two or more listening stations can be correlated.
Cerberus provides diver detection (source: qinetiq; issued june 24, 2003) the threat of asymmetric attacks against ships and harbors has led to the development and launch of a new diver detection sonar by qinetiq. The attack on the uss cole in yemen, which claimed the lives of 17 american sailors and caused severe damage to the destroyer in october 2000, opened eyes to a range of threats, not only of a strike by small explosives-laden speedboats, but also from divers or small underwater vehicles.

(june 7–9, 2011). Of an open circuit underwater breathing apparatus (uba) has been demonstrated in a harbor environment. Open circuit uba is the most common type of uba in which the breathing gas is inhaled by the diver and exhaled in the water in the form of bubbles. Even though the bubble release generates sounds, it is the inhalation that is the object of passive acoustic.
This thesis evaluates automated open-circuit scuba diver detection using low-cost passive sonar and machine learning. Previous automated passive sonar scuba diver detection systems required matching the frequency of diver breathing transients to that of an assumed diver breathing frequency. Earlier work required prior knowledge of both the number of divers and their breathing rate. Here an image processing approach is used for automated diver detection by implementing a deep convolutional neural network. Image processing was chosen because it is a proven method for sonar classification by trained human operators. The system described here is able to detect a scuba diver from a single acoustic emission from the diver. Twenty dives were conducted in support of this work at the whoi pier from october 2018 to february 2019. The system, when compared to a trained human operator, correctly classified approximately 93% of the data. When sequential processing techniques were applied, system accuracy rose to 97%. This demonstrated that a combination of low-cost, passive sonar and a properly tuned convolutional neural network can detect divers in a noisy environment to a range of at least 12. 49 m (50 feet).
September 28, 2006 qinetiq recently made the first private, non-military sale of its cerberus high performance diver and swimmer detection sonar system into the yacht market. The system will be deployed to protect a large private yacht and its passengers while at anchor or alongside in harbour. Cerberus, designed to provide early warning of underwater threats to ships and other high value assets, has previously been trailed with naval forces around the world and is currently under extended evaluation with the us navy. A cerberus unit will be accommodated in a specially designed moon-pool built into the hull of the private yacht and is expected to go into service in early 2007. Cerberus is able to detect and locate swimmers and divers at ranges exceeding 800 metres, providing operators with sufficient time to establish whether that individual represents a threat and decide upon an appropriate response.
