Instructor teaching a ski lesson | erge via pixabay the first time my wife went skiing, i was already pretty experienced. As such, i thought i was capable of teaching her to ski, but in retrospect, this was the very wrong approach. I should have gotten her to take professional lessons instead.
Ski instructor here: take one full day lesson and practice those basics every time you ski. It's really hard to break bad habits like skiing in the backseat. I had no skiing experience before this season and started from ground zero with professional instruction all season and i'm caught up to my friends who've been skiing for years. It's just like climbing, good technique will get you a loooong way.

If you’re just getting started skiing, save money and avoid the trendy gear. Get what you need to learn and progress accordingly. Do yourself a favor and take a few group lessons (cheaper than private lessons) to start learning the basics and stay on the beginner hill until you’ve mastered stopping, turning, and controlling your speed.

Be prepared on the mountain for changing weather conditions by wearing the right clothing. The temperature at the top of the mountain can be different from the base, and the wind can pick up at any moment. Make sure your ski jacket and pants are waterproof and wear layers so you can add and remove them as needed.
