Even though having a mutant bum rush you with teeth bared is an enormously terrifying experience for any gamer, when you experience an enemy that doesn’t attack you, you really start missing those charging beasts from before. What made metro 2033‘s librarians so frightening was the fact that, if you stared them down, they would opt not to attack – backing away and returning to their territory. However, if you turned your back on them and then turned around, just to make sure they didn’t change their minds, you might notice that they were just a little closer than they were before, their hunched, gorrilla-like forms staring at you from an ever-shrinking distance that only grew smaller each time you turned your back. One might think killing it would remove this tension, but these were extremely tough enemies that could kill you or mortally wound you very quickly. Even if you escaped with your life, having to use the precious few medical supplies patching yourself up would only make things harder down the road.
Gaming lists have one simple rule: the master sword has to appear in all 'best video game weapons' lists, link has to appear on all 'best video game heroes' lists, ocarina of time has to appear on 'best video games ever' lists and ganondorf has well here he is. He's the final boss of all final bosses, with an unhealthy thirst for the triforce and/or princess zelda, and he bares no similarities whatsoever to the lord of darkness from ridley scott's legend.
Developer: subset games | year: 2012 the rebel flagship t. S. Eliot once wrote: “i will show you fear in a handful of dustâ€. Ftl: faster than light on the other hand will show you fear in- warning! power surge detected. It’s true, i doubt that any other boss in the history of video gaming could inspire as much awe and dread as ftl’s last line of defence, the rebel flagship.

For a lot of non-gamers, nintendo seems to be a classic video game company with a knack for creating adorable games like mario or kirby, but if you’re a real fan, you know that not every game to come out of nintendo has such a plush look, nor should those appearances deceive you. Even in the most classic of games, there are villains that shouldn’t be taken lightly; honestly, who wouldn’t be spooked by a giant turtle that breathes fire? not to mention that there are plenty of wicked characters that look like they came from unpleasant dreams, like metal face.
Candleman was a 3d puzzle platformer with just about the cutest and most likeable nameless inanimate object in recent video-game history as its protagonist. It was great fun to play, and proved a match made in heaven for youtubers, with its pretty graphics and a difficulty level which was not quite too easy, but not challenging enough to have you rage quitting and smashing your keyboard to pieces.

In what's maybe the only case in human history of the video game being better than the movie, "x-men origins: wolverine" the game is brutal, bloody and so much m-rated fun. The story is kind of nonsensical and convoluted, but it really only exists to throw bad guys at you that you can shred to pieces, and be shredded in return. You take a lot of damage in the game and it shows with bits of flesh being torn away to reveal metal skeleton below. After you kill all the people trying to blow you apart, you can sit there and watch your skin (and clothes) slowly grow back.

Insomniac’s spider-man told one of the most gripping narratives of 2018, with lots of nostalgic callbacks but also several unexpected twists. Octavius, one of the game’s central villains, represents both of these in wonderful ways. Octavius becoming a deadly mad scientist is a story that has been told many times in many mediums. However, insomniac still gives octavius the build-up he deserves, and knowing where his path is heading almost makes his character developer all the more tragic and impactful.
Some video games invite us into fantastical worlds, where the villains breathe fire, cast mythical spells, or take to the skies in winged flight. Other video games, like off the record , invite us to reconsider our own run-of-the-mill reality, where the villains are far more insidious—and can’t be neatly cut down by a mythical sword.

Red dead redemption the last of us in real life, things are rarely just black and white. Video games have tried to humanize their villains in such ways that their actions and motivations fall into a moral gray area. Players are able to sympathize with their foes despite the fact that they’re fighting for the other team. In some extreme cases, it feels as if audience members themselves are the real villains. Keeping all of this in mind, the following is a list of video game villains who may be interpreted as being just or right in their actions. Be warned that spoilers for each title may be found below.
I am a self-confessed video game wimp. Horror games have never been my forte, mostly because i can’t stand the genre even in film. While the more insidious, cerebral threats of the 1980’s horror has always been more terrifying to me, the gore-fests of the 2000s turned me away from horror for good. But that doesn’t mean i haven’t played my fair share of scary games. So here are 5 scary villains in games that get me to curl up into a ball.
Superman returns: the videogame is a 2006 console game featuring superman , and based largely on the story of the movie, superman returns. The game does follow the story of the movie, but inserts extra scenes in between those of the movie. As a result, superman fights many of his known villains in the game. Another tie-in game, superman returns: fortress of solitude , was also released for the gameboy advance handheld.

Although most associate the term “lego games†with the licensed titles released by tt games in the past decade or so, the company has been producing video games since 1997 (1995, even, if you include the japan exclusive lego fun to build). Today, lego is still making games from its own properties, but is best known for its work with other brands, namely lucasarts, marvel, and dc. Movie tie-in or not, here are the best lego games of all time.
The lego dc super villains video game releases in a few short weeks and earlier today, arthur parsons did a livestream at egx and he has “accidentally†revealed the all the playable characters in the base game. It took me a while to compile this list of character names with the help of some friends and below is what we came up with. Some of the character we guessed on so we know they could be incorrect. 28 sep 2013 by tyler f. M. Edwards e every great game needs a hero , but good heroes are nothing without good villains. A good villain inspires fear and anger, motivating players to press on despite all challenges so they can wipe that smug grin off the bad guy’s face. The video game industry has produced countless vile opponents for players to test themselves against, but only a few have risen to become icons of the gaming world. Some stand out because of their role in iconic games, while others have become icons based purely on the strength of their dastardly personalities, but all have given rise to awe and hate in the hearts of countless gamers.
This faceless, lanky creature in the woods is the stuff of nightmares every video game relies on a good old villain to spruce things up and add some pizazz to the gaming experience. A good villain is important as they give the protagonist something to fight against. In some cases, it is safe to say that many villains in the past have been boring, flat and not really interesting.
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] giygas is one of the creepiest video game villains out there, as he's so terrifying that the player can't understand how they're being attacked. [/caption] the final boss battle of 1994's earthbound likely shattered the fragile minds of more than one young child. Like mass effect's reapers, giygas is directly inspired by lovecraftian horror, particularly his incomprehensible form and his power to corrupt objects and animals.
In the geek corner we all want to be the villain. They're more confident, they have more fun, and they usually have the better tailor; admittedly, many of them have a bdsm leather fetish thing going on, so that could be a dealbreaker for you--not that we're judging. Thanks to film, superheroes and their villains are getting all the attention, while video games have yet to make their mark with as wide an audience as marvel or dc. It also doesn't help that video game adaptations have all been varying degrees of dumpster fire--except for the original street fighter with jean-claude van damme and raul julia; if you don't see what that film is a classic, we have no more business to transact.
By lydia lee bugs, bugs, bugs! who doesn’t hate them? they can cause massive damage in your gardens, and even pose risks to your household. And do you know they’re present on video games, too? yes! some video game villains took inspiration from real bugs, since – as we all know – they creep us all out. Here are some of the bugs-inspired video game villains that we all love to smash, and kill, at least virtually:.
The variety of villains in video games is just as staggering as the variety of games. Here are ten questions on some of them. How many of them will you know?.
Behind every great hero is a great villain. Mostly because they're about to stab said hero and laugh maniacally while they writhe around on the floor bleeding out. As long as there have been video games, there have been video game villains. Being a medium steeped in the mythologizing of combat, it makes sense that you can't really have a game without some kind of force standing in the way of you completing your goal. But with the advent of 3d and larger storage space came the introduction of story into gaming, and with it, complexity. And from that cocktail, came a new breed of villain.
Dr. Eggman is the most versatile of any of the classic video game villains. He’s easily the best of them. Dr. Eggman has the unique ability to be hilarious (such as his appearance in sonic generations), intelligent and deceptive (such as his appearance in sonic chronicles), to intimidating (such as his many cartoon appearances or sonic adventure 2). Really, he has a far better personality than the other classic villains and has a much greater range.

Video games are a medium that truly immerses players in unique worlds that others simply do not. In a video game, you get to experience every art from from a unique perspective: music, cinema, literature, theatre and more, with the best part being that it all revolves around you. Such experiences can make players feel powerful as they live vicariously through their character… and with a powerful character, there should be a powerful villain.
By josh jackson | april 14, 2009  | 4:22am share tweet submit pin whereas your typical bond villain only wants to take over the earth, most of the dreamed-up civilizations below eat planets like earth for lunch—though our homeworld itself usually lies just beyond their grasp, thanks to often unappreciated heroic maneuvers of the good guys. When we imagine the great beyond, it's not the benign creatures out there that get the blood flowing, but the monstrous, treacherous aliens that would enslave or destroy the galaxy. Science fiction allows us to take up the banner of us against them, where we are free to see them without humanity, pity or compassion. We long for our wars to be righteous, and there's nothing more righteous than protecting the innocent from the vilest forms of evil. Whether from sci-fi television, movies, books or video games, here are the best villainous races:.
Sephiroth is square enix's most popular villain in the final fantasy franchise. There's so much more to him than just being another pretty-boy villain with a cool sword. One only has to look at some of the acts that he's indulged in throughout the timeline of the game to see that he's deserving of being on the 'most evil' list. He's betrayed those closest to him, committed acts of mass murder on several occasions, and not only did he kill aerith, but he murdered tifa's father and cloud's mother too. To get a better idea of his most evil acts, take a look at the gamers 15 most disturbing acts committed by sephiroth.
If any villain is the star of this list, it’s got to be skull kid, the little malevolent being who spends his time torturing you. Originally he was just a little shy boy in a forest but by putting on the mask of majora, he becomes tormented, little by little the mask strips him of his personality. Majora is a little evil and deranged spirit, who takes possession of skull kid, who is responsible for lots of monstrous acts throughout the game. His sad destiny all comes to a head when he arrives at termina. It becomes a fight against the clock, skull kid only has 72 hours to be able to change back.
1 ganondorf (legend of zelda) ganon (referred to as ganondorf in human form) is a fictional character and the central antagonist of nintendo's legend of zelda series. He is a power-hungry gerudo who possesses the triforce of power and aims to conquer hyrule with the remaining triforce parts. One simply does not defeat ganondorf. And imagine what would happen if link didn't exist. Hyrule would be screwed. If mario didn't exist, bowser would still be stopped by luigi, yoshi, or even peach herself (in fact i think bowser should be lower on this list). Also, nintendo, the company that made both ganondorf and bowser, confirmed that ganondorf is actually stronger than bowser, so how's bowser going to stomp ganon if ganon is actually stronger? lastly, in terms of actual villainy, ganondorf is the video game counterpart of satan (the devil) while bowser (according to theory) is more of a good guy. So take that mario fanboys. Nothing you can say will make bowser a better villain than ganondorf.
Bad never felt so good, and what better way to play bad than through villainous evil deeds? these following games have some of the craziest stories and even the most intense protagonists, whose quests often lead them far and well beyond the brink of total mental destruction. Your goal? your ambition? mostly, it's to destroy the human race, or at least to kill as many people as possible (anyone remember.
Dr. Neo periwinkle cortex is the main antagonist in the crash bandicoot series. Cortex himself actually created crash bandicoot, his arch nemesis and the good guy who foils his every plan. There’s definitely a sad irony there. Dr. Cortex is the final boss in many of the crash games, and despite being a constant nuisance that shows up to bother crash during the game, we can’t help but love him. He’s prone to anger fits which give him his true villain-esque demeanour, but his haplessness and short stature makes him more of a cute, cuddly kind of bad guy rather than a true evil villain. But he’s trying his best, so we’ll continue to pretend to be terrified of him.
Whether we enjoy a villain for their witty one-liners or their unrelenting selfishness, these baddies offer the best antagonists in gaming. Often, the most memorable villains offer engaging glimpses into their life before their fall, making their change of heart all the more tragic. Narrowing this list to just ten wasn't easy, and i've already got plenty of ideas for more awesome villains to explore. But for now, as we eagerly await future heroic foils to test our skills all over again, vote for your favorite character and i'll see you at our next gaming countdown!.
